The Power of Procrastination

by | Feb 18, 2024 | Solopreneurship

We all think that pushing hard is the key to solving problems. But when you’re truly stuck, that kind of effort can work against you. Sometimes the best move is to step back for a bit.

Focusing too hard can lock your mind into a rut. Simple, mindless tasks gives your brain room to breathe and makes space for creative ideas or solutions to pop in.

History backs this up. Einstein loved to go sailing when working on tricky problems. Darwin worked out ideas on walks.

This morning a three week old problem was kicking me to the ground and the solution popped into my brain while checking and watering my seedlings.

I stopped and stared then Joe said “oh oh, I see smoke coming out of your ears.”

Next time you find yourself hitting a wall, try productive procrastination. Go for a walk, tidy your space, or do something simple that lets your mind drift.

Don’t try to force a solution.

Just give yourself a mental break and see what your brain comes up with on its own.

Worked for me, but has this ever worked for you?

Until next time, stay inspired
