While affirmations might seem like a “woo-woo” concept to some (it did to me before I learned more about it), this article isn’t about preaching a certain philosophy. Instead, I want to share my own personal journey of using affirmations and offer simple tips that have helped me overcome some challenges that have been causing me nothing but grief.
My hope is that you’ll find some of these helpful and maybe explore affirmations for your own journey.
Affirmations work by reprogramming your subconscious mind with positive statements that align with your goals and desires. By repeatedly reciting and believing in these statements, you can overcome negative thought patterns. In other words, affirmations can help you stay on track and achieve your entrepreneurial dreams.
But do they actually work?
What are Affirmations and How do They Work?
Affirmations are positive statements shaping your beliefs and actions.
Through repetition, you rewire your brain, fostering new beliefs and empowering you to reach your goals. Consistency and sincerity are crucial.
For example, repeat “I am confident in my abilities” daily to enhance your self-assurance. The more you say it out loud with conviction, the stronger your belief will become.
Identify Core Values Driving your Business
Start by defining your core values.
Contemplate your driving forces and desired achievements. Align these values with your affirmations to create a deep connection and inspire action.
List your top three values, like creativity, integrity, and growth, and incorporate them into your affirmations to stay focused on what matters most.
- I am dedicated to providing value and making a positive impact on my customers’ lives.
- My business is a reflection of my passion and purpose.
List Personal Strengths you Bring to the Table
Recognize your unique strengths and past accomplishments.
Use these assets as a foundation for your affirmations. Embrace your strengths and let them propel your solopreneur journey forward.
Identify your top strengths, such as resilience or problem-solving, and incorporate them into affirmations like:
- My resilience helps me overcome challenges.
- I trust my intuition and make confident decisions.
Choose Positive Phrases to Reinforce Your Goals
Select specific, actionable, and meaningful phrases.
Focus on your goals and write in the present tense. Ensure your affirmations are personal and relevant to your business objectives and written as if it’s already in place.
- Write: “I am” instead of “I want”
For instance, use “I attract my ideal clients effortlessly” or “I am attracting my ideal clients effortlessly” to reinforce your marketing efforts and attract the right audience.
Re-write Affirmations in Your Own Language
Adapt affirmations to your unique voice for greater resonance.
In the book “Think and Grow Rich”, I had trouble understanding much of the concepts because it was written in 1939, primarily for an audience of men and in a very different economic world to what we have right now. The language seemed a little fluffy when it came to “auto-suggestions” aka affirmations.
Using your own language makes it feel authentic and natural, allowing the phrases to be easily internalized and more effective. If an affirmation feels too formal or doesn’t sound like you, rephrase it.
“I’m rocking my business goals!” (which is not how I would say this), but “I’m taking action every day to reach my business goals” sounds more natural to me.
Visualize Success and Overcoming Obstacles
Imagine yourself achieving your goals and surmounting challenges.
Vivid mental images increases the impact of your affirmations and boosts motivation.
Picture yourself celebrating a significant business milestone or overcoming a setback, and pair this visualization with your affirmations for maximum effect.
Repeat Daily by Reading and Saying Aloud
Establish a daily routine to read and recite your affirmations.
Consistency reinforces your commitment to your goals and solidifies new beliefs in your subconscious mind.
Set aside 5 minutes each morning to read and recite your affirmations, visualizing the success you want as you do so.
Embrace affirmations with conviction and positivity to unlock your full potential as a solopreneur.
